Pediatric Fascia Bodywork Therapy in Lutz & Tampa Bay, FL

When sensory, motor, or feeding challenges are connected to tight fascia, retained reflexes, restricted movement, or oral-motor tension, gentle pediatric bodywork may help your child’s body move, feed, and regulate with greater ease. At Sense Able Brain in Lutz, our Occupational Therapists and Speech-Language Pathologists use specialized bodywork training, including the Gillespie Method and STI Bodywork for Sensory Integration and for Babies, as part of a whole-child therapy plan for infants, children, and teens across Tampa Bay.
What Is Pediatric Bodywork, and How Is It Different From Massage?
When a child’s body is struggling against tension, restriction, old movement patterns or protective motor patterns, it can show up in feeding, posture, coordination, movement, sensory regulation, sleep, attention, and mood and intense emotions. We understand this, and it’s often frustrating for parents who have tried many other interventions and still sense that something is physically keeping their child from feeling comfortable and organized in their body.
Pediatric bodywork is a clinical service delivered by one of our Occupational Therapists or Speech-Language Pathologists, trained specifically in techniques that address fascial restrictions, retained primitive reflexes, oral-motor, and neuromuscular tension that can interfere with sensory processing, posture, coordination, movement, regulation, and feeding. Because it’s delivered by a therapist who already understands your child’s whole developmental picture, bodywork sessions are folded directly into the same neurodevelopmental, whole-child approach we use across every program at Sense Able Brain.
Who It’s For: Bodywork may be appropriate for infants, toddlers, children, teens, and young adults, whose sensory, motor, or feeding challenges haven’t fully resolved with traditional therapy alone and may have a structural or fascial component. It works well as a standalone service or integrated into an existing plan of care.
Gillespie Method and STI Bodywork: Two Specialized Approaches
We utilize two specialized bodywork approaches, choosing the method based on what your child’s body is telling us through movement patterns and gentle hands-on assessment.
The Gillespie Method is a targeted, gentle, manual therapy focused on fascial release. We often use it with infants experiencing feeding difficulties, latch concerns, tension, reflux-like discomfort, head-turning preferences, or torticollis-related restrictions, where tightness in the neck, jaw, or chest is making it hard for a baby to turn, latch, or feed comfortably. Gentle, hands-on work can help release that restriction so the body can move and feed with more comfort and freedom.
STI Bodywork for Sensory Integration and for Babies is a neurodevelopmental approach that uses gentle, targeted touch to support sensory-motor integration and whole-body organization. Rather than working on a single symptom, STI Bodywork looks at how the nervous system is organizing sensory input, movement, posture, reflexes, and regulation, to help the body find more efficient, regulated patterns so daily life is more comfortable and manageable.
Both approaches are gentle, hands-on, and designed to work with your child’s nervous system, not against it.
Challenges That Respond to Pediatric Bodywork
Bodywork can be part of the treatment plan for children experiencing:
Fascial constrictionsLow muscle tonePoor posturePostural controlReflex integrationFeeding, latch, or oral-motor challengesTorticollisSensory processingRegulation challenges
If your child shows any of these patterns, bodywork may be a helpful addition to their care, whether they’re already working with one of our therapists or coming to us specifically for this service.
Bodywork as Part of Your Child’s Whole-Body Care
At Sense Able Brain, we take a whole-person, neurodevelopmental approach, and bodywork fits naturally into that bigger picture because it complements the work happening in Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy sessions, addresses fascial or oral-motor restrictions alongside Infant Feeding Therapy or Lactation Coaching, and can be a key piece of our A.B.L.E. Baby Program for the youngest infants working through feeding, tone, or movement challenges.
We know that when the body is free to move, feed, and regulate the way it should, everything else, learning, connection, confidence, becomes more accessible. Bodywork helps clear the physical roadblocks so the rest of your child’s care can do its job.
